Bali Guide | Garlic Lane Restaurant

Return to the Bali Guide

Located in Jl Sahadewa, this is a new restaurant that has just opened.

Nice decor, although that would be expected, surprisingly good food and service for a new place.

Menu still needs some attention, lighting is poor to read the menu.

Service, while good, needs attention, as some staff are not ready to take orders yet..they will learn and patrons will put up with having to spell out their order word by word only so long.

Food is good, altho the second time we went, it was just a little worse than the first time...still acceptable, however.Prices are fine.

Good to see somewhere new, as many of the old restaurants are getting tired and blaze about quality of food, and service.

Can recommend, but hope that it doesn't fall back into the standards that seem to be the norm in Bali these days.

We found their food was delicious and affordable for the price we were paying for. We loved their seafood platter as it was well presented and we kept on coming back for more. Their menu booklet does need some attention as it is poor to read under the dim light. Overall, the staff were friendly, restaurant was clean and most of all the food was delicious.

I had an absolute ball in this restaurant! 2 weeks after their opening ( I had heard of the mass renovation of the old Dolphin Rest.) I was amazed at what a great job they had done with the decor and the open aired upstairs dining area looked amazing. The vietnamese spring rolls were to die for, and although when in Bali I usually prefer to eat local cuisine, the Lamb Shanks melted in your mouth! Being a new restaurant, it is impossible to hire staff who have 15 years restaurant/waiter experience to serve you, and I found the staff to be extremely friendly and welcoming, and I for one, never expect a person whose 3rd language is English to comprehend my rushed ramblings after a few Bintangs, and speaking a little bit slower to the staff saw them relax (as they are only young adults who were, on one occassion I was there, abused by a customer and instantly lost their confidence). A young restaurant, with a talented chef, and perfect location and atmosphere, I will definately be eating there on my next trip in Feb and also when I take a group over in June.
The best part for any westerner...clean toilets. Good job Garlic Lane!

Well..we are off once again on Monday to buy stock and one of the places we will be checking out will be this restaurant to see if the opening standards have been maintained, or as in the case of so Many Balinese restaurants, has slipped into mediocrity.
Was one of our favourites..hope it will still be.

Great food and value! The young staff are still learning, but we have no problem with that as they are really friendly. The spare ribs were yummy and we were pleased to see a more concise menu than Dolphin. Kids loved the banana pizza, I was sorry the best black rice pudding was not on the menu! Back next week to work our way through the menu! Always a plus to get clean toilets as well.

We went back to this restaurant a few weeks ago and were a little disappointed to see that it had slipped a touch.

The menu was fine and as Tanya says, it has been extended well.
They still have a problem with staff in that orders are mistaken and mixed up, and not quite what you order.
The owner/manager was in attendance when we were there and too busy talking to friends than setting a standard for staff service.
Will still go back as the meal was fine.
