Bali Guide | Melasti Beach Hotel
A favorite hotel for Ausssies, on the beachfront at Legian.
Access from Jl.Padma Utara, and close to many restaurants and bars.
Two large pools, and restaurant on the beachfront.
Has many different types of rooms, from single, standard which are pretty crappy and depressing, thru to suites which are reasonable for the price, to family rooms, which are also reasonable.
Things recommending it :
Great location, in the more relaxed area of Legian, and within walking distance to most of the bars and nightspots.Easy access for being picked up for tours etc.Parking for bikes and vehicles good.
Price is reasonable as it is on the beachfront and has good atmosphere round the pools.
Guests, being mostly Aussies are friendly and always someone to talk to.
Has satellite tv, with in house movies and Australian tv.
General staff are very polite and helpful..always 'say good morning' and room cleaners are better than average.
Security guards are very polite and always have a joke with the guests, unlike office staff who have an unreasonable high regard of themselves!
Not so good :
As it is a budget style hotel, it attracts the dregs of Australian society at times.Yobbos are alive and well at the Melasti.
Can be intimidating for young children with the yobbo element running riot at times.
This element is encouraged by management who dont seem to care about other guests comfort as long as they are selling alcohol.
The restaurant should be condemned.Breakfast is truly disgusting and while so many people excuse it, saying it is free, so dont complain, that is not the point.
You get an American breakfast included in your package, so it should be that...not inedible left overs from the night before and recycled food.
Breakfast is prepared on a roster system...said to be to offer variety, however, staple items such as bacon and pancakes as part of an American breakfast should be the usual, and not once a week if you are lucky.
Restaurant staff are unbelievably rude and arrogant, and while some excuse may be made due to the yobbo element that is an embarrassment to Australia, and often coming to breakfast bare chested, with no comment from staff, grunts from so called chefs when asked a question, and rude answers are not acceptable.
Not all staff are rude..there are, indeed a few very good staff at Melasti, but in our opinion, the 'chefs' are rude and not there to make your stay better...just there to get paid to prepare garbage that some days, is inedible.
Night meals at the restaurant are also disgusting...several times, we have had staff become sick while eating there.
Stay away from the restaurant...someone is going to die ther eone day, if they havent already!!
Complaints to management are worthless..about anything..
Have had occasions where staff just turn their back on anyone who dares to complain...and ignore you to your face.
The pools can get very cloudy from suntan oils being used by swimmers, and people drinking alcohol in the pools, and doing what they want without any policing by staff...some days the pools are also disgusting.
Generally, tho, apart from the management of this hotel, we can recommend it, if you are not going to eat there, and dont mind some pretty low class individuals who frequent it from Aus.
It is reasonably cheap, altho the single supplement is unreasonably high if staying alone.
We rate it as a 3, altho the eating side of it would rate a minus 3.
